Learn who we are, what we stand for, and the mission that drives our work every day.

From The Owner

Hey there!

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my company. It means a lot that who we are matters to you.  What we do and matters too, but, at the end of the day, we are a customer service company. We just happen to build beautiful backyards.

It’s been my pride to serve my community and my employees in the Greater Lansing Area since. . . well, forever. I grew up in Williamston, MI, and started my business with a weed-whacker, a rusty Toro and a fraying bungee cord. Nowadays, my day-to-day looks a little different, but what it takes to succeed in my industry is still the same.

Those Core Values from the good old days follow me now. They reflect in my passion for building, serving and teaching, and this Company has given me the opportunity to do all three. I pride myself on the outcome of our products and the impact on our community. Although I would have never predicted where God would take me all those years ago, I would never go back.

Now, after lots of challenges, many blessings and some hard lessons, I am rewarded daily for the choice to pursue my passion.  My family and I owe this company and its success to God, and I thank Him daily for it.

So… What’s With The Bible Verse?

The term “go the extra mile” has its origins in the first century AD, where it was used in the context of a parable. The Israelite nation was oppressed by the Roman Empire, which all but enslaved the Hebrew people. At the time, the Roman Empire was near the peak of its size and influence. Its soldiers were heavily armed, well-trained and determined to expand the glory of their Empire. Their price was steep and their decrees unwavering.

Often “impressed” into service by the traveling Roman armies, local Hebrews carried heavy burdens for the conquering armies a mile at a time, whenever it was demanded. The decree of “impressment” was enforced indiscriminately on the Sabbath and other religious holidays, and represented a significant burden to a manual laborer, the most frequently drafted. This created a wake of indignation behind the traveling armies among the Hebrew people.

What Jesus suggested was radical. When he said, “if a man asks you to go with him one mile, go with him the second also” in Matthew 5:41, he was preaching to an audience of browbeaten Jews, all of whom had personally witnessed the brutality of the Roman Empire. No one had ever suggested such a thing. In fact, many of his audience wanted to rise up against their oppressors, and some even expected Jesus to lead them! Instead, he shocked them by calling them to a higher level of service.
